When looking for a place to stay in Darjeeling, I was lucky enough to stumble upon Joshi's Homestay. Before going inside I was unsure about the idea of doing a homestay, but once I was upstairs and saw their house, and heard of the insanely low price, (250 rupees!!) I was sold. The atmosphere is so homey--big, comfortable couches, beautiful artwork done by the owner, and cozy bedrooms both upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs there is a nice sitting area, with a tv, computer, and if you are a dog person, their friendly dog 'Handsome' can usually be found taking a nap in this area. Outside they have a big patio that overlooks the city, and on a clear day you have beautiful views of the Kachendzonga mountain range! The owners of the homestay are the most helpful, kind people I have met while traveling. They took the time to draw me a map with detailed instructions of how to get around Darjeeling, where to go, and what to avoid, while graciously answering any questions I had. They even told me a lot about the history of Darjeeling and gave me a better insight into the area where I was visiting. One night Anjana (the manager/wife of the home) taught a group of us how to cook Nepali and Indian food. She patiently taught 10 foreigners how to make milk tea, chicken and veg momos, shepta, aloo chop, aloo paratha, soup, and mixed veg curry. The owners even opened up a bottle of their personal wine and served us each a glass with dinner. Being at Joshi's Homestay really made me feel like I was at home. Traveling by myself, they gave me the comfort I had been missing and made me feel like I was back home with my family. The environment is warm, friendly, loving and safe. Every person I meet traveling to Darjeeling I tell them to stay no where else but Joshi's Homestay! If you are looking for an incredible Darjeeling experience, stay at Joshi's Homestay and you will not be disappointed.

Me and my fiancé got told of Joshi's Home Stay by another British traveller when we were staying in Kathmandu, she'd stayed there the week before & raved about how good it was. We travelled from kathmandu to the boarder town between Nepal and India & made our way to darjeeling via jeep from the boarder!

When we got to darjeeling the home stay was quite easy to find as it's very close to the main town.

Once we arrived Anjuna (the main host) was great at making us feel welcomed & offered us tea on arrival. We found Joshi's home stay to be absolutely home like & throughout our stay there we interacted with the whole family from the grandson of Anjuna whos so so cute to the family dog named Handsome... We really felt at home there. Breakfast was served on request (as other meals are also) & was wholesome and filling.

The family helped us get train tickets to get to Varanasi & advised us on places to visit along the way!

On a whole this place has been the best place so far we've stayed at in India (we're now in Goa & have travelled right across he north from darjeeling). We were very relaxed at Joshi's home stay and compliment the whole family on being very hospitable, friendly & loving... It's defo worth a stay if you ever visit darjeeling.

I have stayed few times with Joshi family in Darjeeling and this where you want to stay if you are visiting Darjeeling. I can't recommend this place enough. Anjana and her whole family are perfect host. They respect your privacy and are always willing to help with anything you need. Although, their homestay is very close to main road, but it offers a lot of calm and peaceful time.

Also, don't forget to have at least one dinner with Anjana. She is an amazing cook and a great host.

Thanks a lot for your hospitality.
